Our Magical Visit to the Greenhouse

April 15, 2021

Yesterday while Brodi was at work, Arden and I had the most beautiful afternoon! I am so delighted that the weather is FINALLY warming up, and we’re able to spend some of our time outside. It really is such a mood changer to be able to go outside and feel the warmth of the sun on your face. Where we live, Winter is long, and true Spring and Autumn don’t really exist, so when the sun comes out and we can tuck out of the wind, we love it! Our summers are also tragically short, so we are gearing up to make the most of it when it comes this year!

It was only about +15 degrees celsius yesterday, but after months of below zero, or +5-10 with icy wind, I was so excited! I decided to take Arden on a little adventure. So I spent the next 45 minutes switching suction machines and vents, organizing suction and oxygen tubing, packing emergency trach supplies, gtube supplies, bagger and oxygen.

Lucky for us, our neighbour happens to be the owner of the most beautiful greenhouse in our area, and that’s where we decided to go for our walk. Arden and I made the trek down our long country driveway, and got to spend the afternoon soaking up the warmth and humidity inside the greenhouse. It was absolute magic!

Usually Arden is fussy when we put him in his carseat/stroller combo, but yesterday it’s as if he knew we were going somewhere wonderful. He happily sat still to be strapped in, and didn’t fuss again until it was time for us to leave the greenhouse. And trust me…I didn’t want to leave either! Tina happily moved around planters, cleared aisles, and set up a safe space at the back of the greenhouse so that Arden and I could walk around and then sit and enjoy our time.

I felt so rejuvenated after our visit! I thought for sure that our adventure would have tired Arden out, but when we returned home he had a burst of energy like I have never seen before!

When Brodi arrived home from work, Arden was still up for some more playtime, so we spent a little bit of time on our back deck. We used the new door through our living room to park his vent cart next to so that he could still be hooked up to everything and we wouldn’t have to switch to his portable equipment. We ate supper outside and soaked up the last of the evening sun. It was wonderful.

I can’t wait to share more and more of the outdoor world with Arden!

XO, Rayel
